A Truly Unique Experience

In their first year at Onyx University, learners will have the opportunity to engage with valuable knowledge that is essential for them to become productive members of society and creators of their own opportunities. 
Learners will choose ten courses, five from each of two separate lists of ten available courses, divided between ways of thinking and essential skills for success in the contemporary workplace. 
This year provides learners with an experience that ensures they are prepared for the rigors of the program and to actively participate in the Onyx community and the global community at large.

In their second year at Onyx University, learners will have the opportunity to develop specific 21st century skills, particularly those that will help them excel in the digital world. They will also explore their relationship with the world around them and with others. 
As in their first year, learners will select five courses from two separate lists of ten available courses. This year provides learners with the chance to practice and hone a versatile skill set that will serve them well as employees, entrepreneurs, and beyond. 
The focus of this year will be on collaboration and problem-solving in various contexts.

In their third year at Onyx University, learners will delve into the theoretical knowledge that forms the foundation of their chosen major. This includes foundational texts, major thinkers, and pioneering perspectives within a given academic discipline and industry. 
Special attention will be paid to the major ideas and themes that underpin their specialization. Each major has five required courses to take in the third year. Additionally, learners will craft an additional five studies, tailored to their specific interests and intended to best prepare them for their final year and beyond, through guidance and mentorship.

In their fourth year at Onyx University, learners will apply their theoretical knowledge towards specific and practical skills for their chosen specialization within their major. 
They will take another five required courses related to their major, and engage in an additional five personal studies tailored to their interests. Substantial time and focus will be dedicated to completing their undergraduate capstone project, begun in the third year. 
This project serves as a demonstration of their achievements and learning, and can take the form of a research project, the establishment of a business, an experiential journey, or many other options to round out their undergraduate years.

The undergraduate capstone experience at Onyx University allows learners to select an outcome and experience they wish to achieve at the end of their degree program. 
The format of the capstone project is largely up to the learner, with guidance and inspiration provided by Onyx University. Examples of potential capstone projects include developing a startup or small business, conducting action research, creating a new product, or gaining real-world practical experience. 
Each capstone project aims to enhance the learning experience for the individual learner and provide them with tangible evidence of their learning and growth over the past four years. 
The results of the capstone projects will be shared with the broader Onyx University community and partners will be invited to sponsor and support learners in their lifelong passions and pursuits.
